As a UK volunteer you are ideally suited to  teach English regardless of background when you teach our Learning by Doing style!

English is the language connecting people around the world. It's a gateway to information, to learning online and to better jobs. Being able to speak English is important to all.

Our UK volunteers teach English to poor students and adults. We believe in activity-based learning by doing. Avoid traditional rote learning by heart and learning grammar as practiced in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Nepal! We demonstrate and practice learning by doing with our new UK volunteers at our Volunteer & Cross Cultural Training.

UK IT Volunteers in Thailand, Laos or Cambodia

Teaching children to build a computer

IT and the internet can be the poor man's best help to more knowledge and education. But young students need help and time getting started with IT and computers.

Openmind Projects and its UK volunteers help children learn to use computers and the internet through our demonstrate-explore-discover method. Learning by doing!

Ecotourism and Conservation in Thailand, Laos and Nepal

Rural communities lack good schools and teachers while nature is endangered and exploited. Knowledge and awareness are keys to conservation and sustainable ecotourism. Knowledge allows communities to develop alongside, not at the expense of nature.

Our UK volunteers take on different tasks depending on skills and the needs of each project. Work includes teaching English to local guides and villagers, designing brochures and websites, building trails, participating in wildlife surveys and raising awareness of the benefits of ecotourism in the community.

Openmind Projects works with national parks and marine centers to protect marine life and to rehabilitate and preserve Thailand's coral reefs, marine life and mangrove forests. We also work to promote responsible and community-based ecotourism.

UK and other volunteers' work is seasonal. It depends on weather, the needs of each project and the experience of the volunteer. Tasks may include assisting in marine surveys (which may involve scuba diving), preparing documentation, clean-up work and teaching English.

UK Volunteer Work with Burma Refugees and Migrants

Openmind Projects co-founders add volunteer visiting burmese & Karen migrant community burma volunteer program and karen family
Volunteer with Burma refugee children

Some 200,000 refugees and over 200,000 migrant workers from Burma live along the border in Thailand. They live in poor conditions with an uncertain future. Many do not speak much Thai or English. This makes it difficult for them to get Thai education and government support.

We send our volunteers to orphan homes and schools where they teach English and IT or care for young children. We donate computers to schools and children's homes, and we invite young people from the border areas as trainees to our Training Center in Thailand.

Child and Health Care Volunteer Work Abroad in Thailand, Cambodia and Nepal

Child and health care volunteers contribute to better care for both children and adults, and help improve English skills of the staff and children. Qualified volunteers bring experience and skills to supplement those of the staff in health care centers and hospitals.

Without good health and child care people cannot learn. Without education job opportunities remain limited. Poor health impedes personal growth and drains resources from those around them. Openmind Projects focuses on education.

Holiday Camp UK Volunteer Opportunites in Thailand

Openmind Projects runs camps for school children during their holidays in October and April. These are hosted at our Training Center in Nong Khai, in Krabi and in Laos. The camps give students opportunities to learn and practice English, to use and become more familiar with computers, and to increase their global and environmental awareness.

Volunteers are involved in the planning process for the camps and help with both teaching and social activities. As you get to know the children, you can learn alongside them!
